Mon 6-7-2021 1838 Highway 86, Milford, IA
(Okoboji)-The free talk at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory on Tuesday evening will focus on Wildlife Success Stories, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Friends of Lakeside Lab's Science Seminar Series will continue on Tuesday evening with a talk by Vince Evelsizer, Furbearer and Wetland Biologist with the Iowa DNR.
Evelsizer says he'll be discussing some of Iowa's wildlife success stories. "Wildlife success stories are any of the species of wildlife we now have in Iowa that are doing well, thriving with a good, strong breeding population. So, some of those are ones that came back on their own, some are reintroduced by the Iowa DNR and lots of partners. For example, ones that were reintroduced into Iowa were the Trumpeter Swan, Wild Turkey, River Otter, Canada Goose. Some of the species of wildlife that kind of came back on their own, with perhaps a little help from laws or protection from habitat loss or overhunting would be species like the Bobcat, the Sandhill Crane, Whitetail Deer, several migratory bird species, some of our songbirds, ducks, shorebirds, that sort of thing."
The talk will begin at 7 o'clock at Mahan Hall on the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory Campus and is free and open to the public.
