Firefighters From Three Area Depts. Battle Structure Fire In Orleans
(Orleans)-- Fire Friday evening destroyed a Morton-type building in Orleans. Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly tells KUOO news his department was called to 13985 Wedeking Drive in Orleans around 6:50 pm...
"When we got on the scene we did have smoke coming from all of the eves. We had that big wind last night so I called in help right away. We had help in here from Arnolds Park-Okoboji and Superior came over and helped."
Daly says there was a residence in part of the building and that the occupant was home at the time. She managed to get out unharmed. There was also a garage in the other part of the building. Daly says the structure and its contents are a total loss...
"It got up in the attic with that wind and we just had a heck of a time getting it stopped. Do you know what types of other things were in that building? There was a big motor home, that was totaled out, I think there was a car in the one garage, too. We did get some of her belongings out. We do have the fire marshal coming and he's going to come look at it with me on Monday."
Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to another similar building nearby.
No injuries were reported to firefighters.
Firefighters were assisted on the scene by Dickinson County Emergency Management, the Spirit Lake Police Department and the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office. An ambulance from Lakes Regional Healthcare also stood by on the scene as a precaution.
The fire was apparently discovered by a neighbor.
