Estherville Voters To Vote On A Couple Of Measures In August 6th Special Election

Wed 6-12-2019

(Estherville)-- Voters in Estherville will head to the polls in a special election August 6th to decide the fate of a couple of issues.

One is on a $4.1 million bond issue for a new municipal swimming pool; the other is to fill a vacancy on the ward 1 city council seat.

Polling site for the August 6th special elections will be the Farm Bureau Building at 421 1st Avenue North in Estherville. Polls will be open that day from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm.

The Emmet County Auditor's Office says candidates interested in running for the city council seat must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination petition no later than 5:00 pm July 12th. The filing period is open effective immediately. The needed forms are available at the Emmet County Auditor's Office or the Estherville City Hall.

The deadline to request a mailed absentee ballot is August 2nd; the last day to vote early in person is August 5th. Officials say early voting will begin as soon as printed ballots are received.

Due to the fact the city of Estherville is a run-off city, a successful candidate will need to win by a simple majority, or atleast one vote more than 50 percent of the total votes cast. If no candidate receives a simple majority, a run-off election would then be held September 3rd.
