Estherville Man Faces Charges In Hit And Run

(Estherville)-- Charges have been filed against an Estherville man stemming from a hit-and-run collision Thursday in Estherville.

The reporting party stated his vehicle had been struck from behind by another vehicle while stopped for a traffic light at the corner of West 1st and Central Avenue. The suspect vehicle then left the scene. The caller followed it and contacted an Emmet county dispatcher who was able to direct police to the striking vehicle's location on West Central Avenue.

The driver initially identified himself to police as 38-year-old Santos Hinojosa of Estherville. Upon investigation officers determined the man was impaired. He was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, 1st offense. He was booked into jail. During that process, authorities determined the man was actually 24-year-old Rosalio Martin Lopez of Estherville. He was additionally charged with forgery, child endangerment, no driver's license, leaving the scene of an accident and no insurance.

Lopez remains held in the Emmet county jail on a detainer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
