Estherville Man Arrested On Child Abuse Charges

(Estherville)-- An Estherville man has been arrested following an investigation into a report of child abuse.

Police say they were called around 10:40 pm December 30th to 500 ½ Central Avenue where they discovered 25-year-old Christopher Girard had allegedly pushed his one-year-old son to the ground, causing minor injury to his eye and head. Girard was arrested and charged with one count of child endangerment, a class “D” felony. He was booked into jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

Girard was additionally charged Friday with another count of child endangerment for an incident in November, 2018 that resulted in minor injury to his four-year-old daughter.

Estherville police were assisted by the Iowa Department of Human Services and the Emmet County Attorney's Office.
