Estherville Hometown SHOPKO Store Slated For Closure

Thu 1-10-2019

(Estherville)-- Some more SHOPKO Hometown stores, including the one in Estherville, will be closing their doors for good.

It comes on reports the retail chain is expected to file for bankruptcy protection next week. A pharmaceutical company says it supplied SHOPKO with $67 million in drugs but hasn't been paid.

A timeframe for the closure of the Estherville store hasn't been disclosed. The store had only been open a little more than a year.

SHOPKO announced last month it was closing nearly 40 stores, including its Hometown Stores in Cherokee, Eldora and Webster City.

Hy-Vee recently announced it was purchasing some of SHOPKO's pharmacy locations.
