Emmet County Authorities File Multiple Charges In Connection With June 21st Crash
(Estherville)-- Numerous charges have been filed in connection with a two-vehicle collision that happened back on June 21st in Emmet county.
Authorities say 15-year-old Kyla Hansen was southbound at the intersection of 410th Avenue and 180th Street when a small red pickup collided with the side of her vehicle, sending it into the ditch where it rolled several times, coming to rest on its roof. The driver of the red pickup fled the scene.
Hansen was taken to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville with non life-threatening injuries.
As part of their investigation, authorities recovered vehicle parts and a license plate consistent with the suspect vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later in Estherville. Upon further investigation authorities determined 47-year-old James Helmick of Armstrong had allegedly been driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. He was arrested and booked into the Emmet county jail on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, obstructing prosecution, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, no insurance and a stop sign violation.
Hansen was cited for violating terms of a school license.
