Early Morning Storms Plow Through Portions Of The Region; Significant Structural Damage Reported In Rock Valley
(Rock Valley)-- A storm early this (Thurs.) morning caused a significant amount of structural damage on the west side of Rock Valley.
Severe damage was reported to some homes in that area. The roof and some walls were ripped off from atleast one home, and several others sustained significant damage. Utility poles were also snapped off. Officials say most of the damage occurred over a four-block area of the town.
Meteorologist Alex Trellinger with the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls says they weren't sure if it was a tornado or straight line wind that caused the damage. Personnel were being sent to the scene.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
It was part of a line of storms that made its through portions of northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota between 1:30 and 4:00 this (Thurs.) morning. Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings were issued as the line moved east for the possibility of damaging wind in excess of 60 mph. A warning for Dickinson county was issued at 4:00 am, but the system died by the time it got to the Iowa Great Lakes. There were reports of wind estimated in excess of 40 mph however in some areas of western Dickinson county.
