Early Morning Crash Involving A Pickup And Semi Injures One

(Emmetsburg)-- A collision early this (Wed.) morning east of Emmetsburg involving a pickup and semi sent one person to the hospital. The Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office says James Voigt of Algona was driving a 2015 GMC pickup southbound on 480th Avenue when he fell asleep at the wheel. The pickup went through the intersection with Highway 18 and continued southbound.

At the same time, authorities say a 2015 Freightliner semi driven by Steven Leman of Milford was pulling onto 480th Avenue from the Cenex station parking lot. Deputies say the pickup collided with the semi trailer, near the back tires.

Voigt was taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No injuries were reported to Leman.

Voigt was cited with failure to obey a stop sign.

The pickup Voigt was driving was totaled; damage to the semi trailer, owned by Max Yield, was estimated at $30,000.

The collision took place around 1:45 a.m.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Emmetsburg Fire Department and ambulance.
