DNR To Hold Series Of "First Day Hikes", Including One At Gull Point State Park
(Wahpeton)-- You'll have an opportunity to kick off the New Year by taking a hike through a popular state park in the Iowa Great Lakes.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be holding “First Day Hikes” at a number of state parks January 1st, including one at Gull Point State Park on the west side of West Lake Okoboji. The hike will begin at 10:00 am New Year's Day and will be about 1 ½ to 2 miles long.
Those planning to attend should dress for cold weather, wearing layers of clothing and sturdy hiking boots or shoes, along with hats and gloves. You may also want to bring binoculars and a camera.
Children are also welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
Officials say trail difficulty may depend on the amount of snow on the ground.
DNR officials say it will be the first event to mark the 100th anniversary of state parks in Iowa in 2020.
