DNR Announcing Reduced Amenities At State Parks Due To COVID-19

Sat 3-28-2020

(Des Moines)-- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has announced some amenities at state parks are being reduced due to concerns with COVID-19.

The agency says all bathrooms, including pit latrines at all state parks are closed through April 15th, 2020. Because of that, the DNR says camping in state parks is limited to self-contained (enclosed) campers with their own bathrooms through April 15th. Camping through April 15th is limited to walk-ins only and is available only on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The DNR adds all shelters, camping cabins, youth camps and lodges are also closed, and that playgrounds are not advised to be used.

They remind those who are outdoors to practice social distancing by keeping a distance of atleast six feet between you and others, and to not congregate in parks and other areas.
