DNR Announces Most Amenities At State Parks & Campgrounds Will Be Reopening This Friday, May 22nd
(Des Moines)-- Some amenities at Iowa State Parks and campgrounds will be reopening just in time for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend. That word today (Wed.) from Kayla Lyon, Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources...
"I'm very pleased to announce that we will be opening all modern restrooms, shower buildings and cabins at our Iowa state parks starting this Friday, May 22nd, in time for Memorial weekend. This means campgrounds will be open for all campers including R.V.'s, pop-ups and tent camping. But campers will notice some stipulations. Youth group camp sites will remain closed as well as shelters, lodges, playgrounds, other group camps, museums and visitor centers."
Lyon says some restrictions will remain in place...
"In campgrounds only campers with overnight reservations will be allowed. No visitors. Only campers occupying the individual campsite will be allowed to gather around the campfire. No guests or large groups. Only six overnight occupants per campsite will be allowed unless the immediate family contains more than six. Communal picnic tables and grills will be open for use at your own risk. Beaches will remain open and we will monitor them closely. It is our hope that we can visit these restrictions as things evolve."
Lyon says it remains very important for everyone to abide by social distancing guidelines and that all other necessary precautions be taken, including limits groups to 10 or less.
