Dickinson County Trails Seeing A Huge Increase In Usage
(Spirit Lake)-- Dickinson county's recreational trails are seeing a huge increase in usage so far this spring.
Erin Reed of the Dickinson County Trails Board told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday trail usage for the months of April and May is up considerably from a year ago...
"I know we were about 22,000 at the, near the trestle bridge north of the tunnel that goes under Highway 71. That was a really high count for the month of May. And you definitely see it when you're out there driving around. It's tremendous, the amount of use that we're getting."
Reed says she'll be checking counters along other trail segments in coming days but she suspects those numbers will be up considerably as well.
On another note, Reed reported the murals in the trail tunnel under Highway 71 have been completed. The project was funded by Imagine Iowa Great Lakes.
