Dickinson County Nature Center to begin new Art & Nature Series January 28

Mon 1-26-2015 []

DCNC offers new art and nature series (Okoboji)-The Dickinson County Nature Center will kick off a new Art & Nature series on Wednesday.

Community Relations Coordinator Kylie Roth explains.

"We're going to be having monthly sessions focusing on art, and one of those is going to be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28th.  That's going to be our first one on Wooden Wall Art.

So what we're going to be doing for this one is we're going to be taking tree cookies, which are slices of tree trunks or limbs, and then we're going to be painting them.  So, you can either paint in the rings of the tree cookies, or you can create your own design.

Our February one is February 25th, and that's Upcycled Owls, which will be taking different found metal objects and creating garden art pieces.

So we're going to be having different free sessions like that throughout the year."

She adds that the new gallery at the Nature Center is now open as well.

"We have 4 different artists displaying in there throughout the year, using their nature art.  Our first one is Katie Plucker and she's up right now, she's a watercolor artist.  To go along with their art exhibits throughout the year, we are going to have them do different classes.

Those will cost, and those are going to be mostly for adults, but the classes that we're holding in the evening, those will be free."

Pre-registration is requested for the classes and workshops.  Details may be found at www.dickinsoncountynaturecenter.com
