Dickinson County Authorities Make Arrest In Theft Case
(Spirit Lake)-- An arrest has been made in connection with a theft of some items from a vehicle that was stuck in the 2000 block of 140th Street in Dickinson county. Authorities say the owner of that vehicle discovered their wallet and a spotting scope were missing.
The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office says upon further investigation from surveillance videos, they were able to determine a vehicle of interest. On Thursday of last week that vehicle was spotted near the intersection of Hill Avenue and 37th Street in Spirit Lake. Police pulled over the vehicle for alleged traffic violations. The driver, 57-year-old Mark Westlake, was arrested for no driver's license, no insurance, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and failure to use a seatbelt. A wallet that matched the description of the one that was stolen was in plain view of the officer.
A search warrant was then executed on the vehicle. The wallet was positively identified as the one stolen from the vehicle in the ditch. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office then obtained and executed a search warrant on a storage unit in Lake Park that was being rented by Westlake, where the stolen spotting scope was found.
Westlake was additionally charged with unauthorized credit card use, theft in the 3rd degree, burglary in the 3rd degree, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance...methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Westlake is being held in the Dickinson county jail on a $6,000 cash or surety bond.
