Dickinson County Audit Report Released
(Des Moines)-- An audit of Dickinson county's finances for the year ended June 20th, 2014 show local tax revenue totaled $48.7 million, which included $784,099 in tax credits from the state. The county forwarded $40.1 million of that to townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies. $8.6 million was retained by the county to finance operations, a 4.3 percent increase over the prior year.
Other revenue included charges for service of $1.6 million; operating grants, contributions and restricted interest of $3.6 million; $1.3 million in capital grants, contributions and restricted interest; a little more than $623,500 in tax increment financing; local option sales tax proceeds totaled $1.17 million; the hotel/motel tax brought in a little more than $86,500; while unrestricted interest amounted to $122,000 and other general revenues totaled a little more than $354,000.
Expenses for county operations for the year ended June 30th, 2014 totaled slightly more than $13.9 million...a 2.2 percent increase from the prior year. Expenses included $4.16 million for roads and transportation; $2.34 million for public safety and legal services; and $2.29 million for administration.
