Dickinson Co. Supervisors Discuss Hiring Environmental Consultant
(Spirit Lake)-- The possible hiring of an environmental consultant was a topic of discussion at this (Tues.) morning's Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting.
It came on the heels of Monday's meeting with various entities regarding disposal of items contaminated by the June 22nd oil spill from a train derailment near Doon that's being disposed of at the Dickinson County Landfill. Representatives of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, and Waste Management, which owns and operates the landfill, were in attendance at that meeting. Each indicated they would be willing to provide information for such a study.
The supervisors this (Tues.) morning conducted an interview with a potential environmental consultant and requested he draw up a proposed list of services. That will then go before the supervisors at an upcoming meeting at which time they'll take official action.
The supervisors indicated they want a specialist that could further analyze the material going into the landfill, along with ground water and air monitoring, among other things.
