Dickinson Co. Supervisors Approve Request From Sheriff & Co. Attorney To Jointly Hire An Investigator
(Spirit Lake)-- The Dickinson county board of supervisors this (Tues.) morning voted 5 to nothing in favor of a request by the Sheriff's and County Attorney to jointly hire an investigator that would work strictly out of the County Attorney's Office.
County Attorney Jon Martin told the supervisors the caseload his office is dealing with continues to increase, and that many cases require supplemental investigations that can be detailed and time consuming. Martin says it's creating a big backlog that's also affecting the Sheriff's Office...
"That's the point of what we're trying to do here, is to serve the community better and making better cases. We get six trial dates a year on felonies. We have probably 120 or so felonies a year. Trying to funnel that through the system is very difficult. If you don't have the opportunity or the tools to make a good case then you have to move stuff that you think you can't make and try the ones that you can."
While the supervisors authorized the hiring, funding for the position will be addressed later.
