(Orleans)-- A local developer has plans to put a serious dent in the region's affordable housing shortage. Representatives of IGL Construction presented their plans at a special meeting Monday evening of the Orleans city council. Kelly Beneke of IGL Construction told KUOO news the proposed development would be built on land just north of the Dickinson County Fairgrounds...Beneke01

Beneke says the proposed development would consist of slab on grade single family homes, town homes and single family homes with basements in areas of the site where the water table is deeper. Other amenities could potentially include a detention pond, park area, playground, pool, and community garden. Beneke says the project would likely be done in phases...Beneke02

Beneke says they've been in close contact with the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation and area manufacturers to gauge their needs...Beneke03

As we reported earlier, the site of the proposed development is just north of the Dickinson County Fairgrounds. That land is currently in the county. Officials with IGL Construction are requesting it be annexed by the city of Orleans. It was the consensus of the Orleans city council Monday evening to proceed with that and to begin contacting property owners in the area that would be affected.
