Fri 11-6-2020

(Algona)-- The Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office announced today (Fri.) the death earlier this month of an inmate at the Kossuth county jail was the result of suicide.

Authorities say 44-year-old Mark Brunsvold of Wesley, Iowa was found unresponsive in his jail cell around 7:12 am October 17th, 2020. The Medical Examiner's report says at about 10:30 pm the previous evening, Brunsvold and other inmates were placed in lockdown for the evening, and that Brunsvold was alone in his cell when he was found the next morning.

The report says Brunsvold died of "ligature strangulation".

Brunsvold was being held at the Kossuth county jail pending transfer to the Iowa Medical Classification Center in Coralville to begin serving a sentence for a parole violation.
