Customers Of Milford Municipal Utilities Urged To Conserve On Electricity As Much As Possible

Mon 2-15-2021

(Milford)-- Officials with Milford Municipal Utilities are putting out a plea for residents to reduce their electrical usage as much as possible due to the current circumstances.

Like Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, MMU is also served by the Southwest Power Pool or SSP, a regional transmission provider. As we've reported, that agency has declared a level three state of emergency as they can't keep up with demand for electricity.

MMU officials say as a result, they are currently operating off of their jet generators periodically over the past several days now to help support the grid. The generators were fired up again today (Monday) and MMU officials say they will continue generating as long as possible to help support the system.

In the meantime, to prevent things from getting worse, residents are being asked to voluntarily reduce their electrical usage.
