(Estherville)-- A crash early Monday involving an SUV and a semi on Highway 9 on the west edge of Estherville sent one person to the hospital.

The Emmet County Sheriff's Office says 45-year-old Timothy Anderson of Ringsted was driving a 2010 Ford Explorer northbound on 360th Avenue when he pulled into the intersection with Highway 9 and collided with a 2006 Volvo semi tractor-trailer owned by Fareway Stores and being driven by 60-year-old Mark Carlson of Stanhope, Iowa. The westbound semi went into the north ditch where it came to rest.

Anderson was taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No injuries were reported to Carlson.

The Ford Explorer was totaled; damage to the semi tractor-trailer was put at $15,000.

Anderson was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

The collision took place shortly after 4:00 a.m.

The Emmet County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Estherville Police Department and the Estherville Fire Department.
