Wed 6-12-2019

(Primghar)-- A Primghar man was injured Monday in an accident involving a tractor he was driving that was pulling a planter.

The O'Brien County Sheriff's Office says 63-year-old Darryl Triplett of Primghar was driving a 2012 John Deere Tractor eastbound on a gravel road and was approaching a narrow bridge. Deputies say Triplett noticed at the last moment that the wings on the planter weren't folded completely on one side. He then tried to stop quickly and applied only the left brake pedal, causing the tractor to jerk to the left while on top of the bridge. Authorities say the tractor then collided with the guard rail and went off the bridge, coming to rest in a riverbed.

Triplett later drove himself to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Damage to the tractor and planter was estimated at $50,000 while the bridge railing sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.

The mishap took place around 3:30 pm Monday.
