(Spencer)-- The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation and Northwest Iowa Planning and Development are announcing the availability of a microgrant program to assist businesses in Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson and Emmet counties. Brian Dalziel, Interim President and CEO of the Iowa Lakes Corridor tells KUOO news the Corridor COVID-19 Business Recovery Grant Program is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce...Corridor Microgrants01

"We've been speaking with businesses across the corridor region and there's a lot of need out there, there's a lot of hurt out there, and this is one small step that we can do to help folks get back on their feet. So a business can apply for a $3,000 grant and they would need to match that 50 cents on the dollar of what we provide. So if they get the full $3,000 maximum they need to have $1,500 of their own or they can get $1,000 from us and match with $500 of their own if you will."

Dalziel says the program is intended to assist businesses in several areas of operation...Corridor Microgrants02

"If they are an out of state retailer they can put their products on is a resource produced by the Iowa Economic Development Autority to help Iowa retailers get their products online, they compete with the Amazons of the world. And so they could utilize those resources to hire a local company such as Blink Marketing, such as F8 Creative, Bonfire, folks down at Lebony Tech, so there's a variety of local companies that can help them to do that. If they're a service based business they might wish to schedule appointments online. Especially young people today. They love there's an app for that. You know they want to go online check an app and schedule their car in for an oil change and, you know, get their next dental checkup, what have you. Scheduling appointments online is something you could utilize this resource to do. Thirdly, if you're a manufacturer and you want to make a prototype for a new product that you're interested in producing, these resources can go against creating that prototype."

Dalziel says only a small amount of grants are be made available on a first come, first serve basis. Applications can be found at lakesorridor-dot-com or by contacting them at 712-264-3474.
