Construction Continues On Hwy 71 Bridge Over Des Moines River In Jackson

Fri 10-7-2016 []

(Jackson, Mn.)-- Replacement of the Highway 71 bridge in Jackson is nearing completion. Bob Williams with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in Windom outlines the current work...

"The bridge itself, they are getting ready to pour the deck, that is the main part of the driving surface. They expect to be doing that possibly as early as Saturday but more likely early next week."

After the deck is poured Williams says there's quite a bit of support work to be done...

"After that they have to pour some approach panels which are concrete, then overlays and railings and that sort of thing, so all of that work will happen after that. And then the bridge railings will be going on and there's other support work to do on both sides of the bridge as far as street work."

Despite weather delays the estimated completion date is just weeks away...

"It looks now like probably the first week of November or something like that will be the estimate, but to be any more precise, we just have to get the deck poured check from that as far as what happens after that. It's getting closer, though."
