(Sanborn)-- A collision late Thursday afternoon involving a Sanborn fire truck and a semi sent both drivers to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says the fire truck, a 2007 Peterbilt tanker, was being driven by 34-year-old Adam Roelfs of Sanborn. Troopers say the fire truck was in emergency mode and was northbound on Highway 59 at the west intersection with Highway 18. The semi, a 2000 Sterling semi tractor-trailer, was being driven westbound on Highway 18 by 67-year-old Donald Van Der Ziel of Orange City. The two trucks collided in the intersection, with the fire truck spinning, then flipping onto its side.

Both drivers were suspected of having minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Sheldon hospital.

Roelfs was cited for failure to yield.

Damage to each truck was estimated $50,000.
