Collision In Palo Alto County Claims Life Of Bicyclist
(Emmetsburg)-- An Emmetsburg man was killed Tuesday when a vehicle collided with him while he was riding a bicycle in Palo Alto county.
The Iowa State Patrol says 83-year-old Duane Anderson of Estherville was driving a 2006 Dodge van southbound on Palo Alto County Road N40 about a half mile south of 330th Avenue. Authorities say Anderson was adjusting a mirror when he collided with two bicycles that were side-by-side in the outer portion of the lane.
Both bicyclists, 36-year-old Luke Rouse and 33-year-old Lacey Rouse, along with their four-year-old son who was a passenger on Lacey's bike, were all taken to Palo Alto County Hospital. Luke Rouse died of his injuries.
The incident took place around 1:20 pm. Authorities say it remains under investigation.
