Collision At Hwy 18 & Clay Co. Road N-14 Injures Emmetsburg Man

Fri 7-7-2017

(Dickens)-- A two-vehicle collision Thursday at the intersection of Highway 18 and Clay County Road N-14 injured an Emmetsburg man.

The Iowa State Patrol says 55-year-old Vickie Thornton of Emmetsburg was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander eastbound on Highway 18 and was entering the intersection. Troopers say 60-year-old Michael Mitchell of Estherville was driving a 1991 Chevrolet pickup southbound on County Road N-14 and was slowing for a stop sign at the intersection when his brakes apparently failed. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

A passenger in Thornton's vehicle, 57-year-old Joseph Thornton of Emmetsburg, was injured in the collision. A news release doesn't indicate whether or not he was taken to a hospital.

The collision took place shortly after 10:00 am.
