Clay County Heritage to host Parker Museum Open House July 15
Wed 7-11-2018 300 East 3rd Street,Spencer,IA
(Spencer)-An Open House will be held at the Parker Museum in Spencer this coming weekend, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
Clay County Heritage will be hosting a Parker Museum Open House Tour on Sunday, July 15.
Director Stephanie Horsley says the Museum was built over one hundred years ago. "It's where Clay County Heritage began, and was our first museum. It's just fun for people to see this home, it was built in 1916, an Arts and Crafts-style home, it's very unique and in good repair and we like to have people come and see what life was like back in time."
She adds that the Museum is home to many collections. "A lot of items from the Parker Family. They bought the home in 1928, and donated it to be a museum in 1969. They did a lot of traveling, so we have a lot of items from that, and then we have many items that have been donated to us from people in Clay County. We have special areas throughout the house that focus on different themes such as a one room schoolhouse, a general store. Upstairs we have our bedrooms in different themes as well, such as a Victorian. Just items you would see in home maybe 50 to 100 years ago."
The Open House will be held from 1-4 on Sunday afternoon at the Parker Museum, located at 300 East 3rd Street in Spencer.
Admission is free, however, free will donations are appreciated.
