(Cherokee)- The Cherokee Jazz and Blues Festival will be held January 19 & 20, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Cherokee Jazz and Blues Festival will feature two days of concerts, jam sessions and pub crawls on January 19th and 20th.
Cherokee Chamber Executive Director Julie Kent-Hering says a wide variety of music will be offered. "We call it jazz, blues and so much more, because we really do cover a variety of genres of music as this music festival. The Festival includes several components. We have Pub Crawls on both Friday night and Saturday night. On Saturday afternoon, we have a Jam Session, so local musicians can come on out and participate in that. We also have, on Saturday night, a Big Band Dance, bringing in the Leo Lonnie Orchestra from Nebraska that's going to be performing."
She adds that the festival includes music clinics for students. "One of the other components we have this festival is a music clinic. Education is very important to our committee, and we have each year brought in some professional musicians to work with students at surrounding schools to help them learn more about the fundamentals of jazz."
