Car vs Semi Collision in Osceola County Injures Man

(Melvin)-- A collision Wednesday in Osceola county involving a car and a semi sent one person to the hospital. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says 28-year-old Andrew Darby of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was driving a 2015 Ford westbound on County Road A-34. Authorities say Darby came to a stop at the intersection with Highway 59 when he pulled into the path of a 1995 International tractor-trailer driven by 63-year-old Wayne Kooiman of Chandler, Minnesota who was northbound. Authorities say both drivers tried to avoid a collision but were unsuccessful. The Ford spun around and came to a stop in the east ditch of Highway 59. The semi tractor-trailer went off the roadway into the west ditch, traveled over a field driveway, and went airborne.
Kooiman was taken by ambulance to Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. No injuries were reported to Darby.
$15,000 in damage was estimated to the Ford driven by Darby; damage to the semi tractor-trailer driven by Kooiman was estimated at $25,000.
The crash took place around 5:00 p.m.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Melvin ambulance and Melvin Fire Department.
