Mon 5-22-2017

(Wahpeton)-- Camp Okoboji is about to unveil a new 1.4 million dollar facility. Paul Golke, Ministry Advancement Director, tells KUOO news they'll be holding a dedication ceremony this Sunday, May 28th, for the recently completed Discover Center...Golke01

"It will be used mostly with our summer programs, and the guests that come to camp, anything from craft ideas that might be part of a specific kid's program, or it might be a pick up thing that guests can come in and just do for a couple of hours, or the community can rent it out for space for receptions. It will  just be a flexible building with mass media, sound, lights, web-type connections."

Golke says Sunday's dedication is open to the public...Golke02

"We actually have a dedication service at 4:00 in the afternoon, and we're going to follow it up with a meal and an open house. People are invited to come in and see the building and even do a little project there. We're going to have some things going on in the building that families or people can do while they're there."

Golke says Camp Okoboji has served youth and families now for 76 years...Golke03

"We run a variety of summer programs for youth, and more so for families. Family ministry and family gatherings for multi generational types of programs are really growing and we're trying to grow along with that. We also do a lot of things with outdoor education throughout the summer. We're offering day camp programs to the community this summer as well as youth camps for basically grades K-12."

Golke says there's still time to get signed up for those camps. You can do that and find more information about Camp Okoboji by going to www.campokoboji.org.
