Big Weekend Planned For Spencer With Flagfest & 150th Anniversary Celebrations
(Spencer)-- Not one but two celebrations will be going on simultaneously this weekend in Spencer. In addition to Flagfest, the city will also be celebrating its 150th anniversary.
The events kick off Friday with some of the main highlights on Saturday, including a parade. Sheriffa Jones of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce says the fun Saturday afternoon will shift to the Clay County Fairgrounds...
"From 2:00 until 6:00 there's going to be lots of activities out there for those that are zero to 100. Fireworks on Saturday night which a new thing that we've added, that's at the Clay County Fairgrounds as well. That will start at about 10:00 pm. You know, on Saturday if you're looking for other things to do and you want to get into the AC, the time capsule contents will be on display out at the Clay County Heritage Center as well."
Becky Fear Hatting of the Spencer Chamber says free plane rides will also be available for kids...
"Of course the child that goes up will need to have a parent's signature to let them go up. But it's kind of to get the kids an idea of what flying's like. You know, if the weather's good they're going to take them up, they'll go around Spencer a little bit, then of course come back down, but it will be kind of fun for the kids to be able to do that. And then also we're going to have a river float. We keep having people practicing to make sure that the water is still okay out there, and yes, you can still float all the way from Stolly's to West Leech Park."
Other events include a disc golf tournament, homemade boat races, free swimming, museum tours and a movie in the park.
The celebration will run through Sunday.
