A benefit is on tap for a local woman who is battling cancer, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
A benefit for Michelle “Half Pint” Schwerdtfeger of Spirit Lake will be held on Saturday, August 25.
Shirley Richter, Canteen Manager at the VFW in Spirit Lake says, the fundraiser will get underway with a benefit run on Saturday morning. "There's a benefit run that'll start at Buck's. Registration is at 10 am, and the ride actually starts at 11 am. It's $20 for drivers and $10 for riders, and that can either be by bike or by car."
She notes that the fundraiser will be held at the VFW starting at 4 pm. "We're having the benefit at the Memorial Hall at the VFW in Spirit Lake. It is a benefit to help her with some of her medical costs. We are going to have the Cattlemen grill burgers, the Women's Auxiliary are going to serve the burgers along with salads, and that will be a free-will donation. And then we also are going to have a silent auction. The silent auction is going to go until 8 o'clock, and then after we are going to have music."
Live music will be provided by Ian Hilmer and Remains Nameless.
