(Spirit Lake)-Ballet Nebraska returns to the Sami Center this weekend, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has the story:
The Iowa Great Lakes Nutcracker and Ballet Nebraska will present two performances of The Nutcracker at the Sami Bedell Center for the Performing Arts on Friday and Saturday.
Organizer Dawn Fisher says a non profit organization was formed to continue to bring the ballet to the Iowa Great Lakes. "Ballet Nebraska is coming here. We have a non profit corporation e started called Iowa Great lakes Nutcracker, or IGLN. We fundraise, then do the rehearsals and organize everything, and you know, we have some great sponsors that ensure that this tradition is able to continue."
She adds that dozens of local dancers work with the professionals from Ballet Nebraska to put on the show. "We have 76 local dancers, so that's the most we've ever had in it, it's pretty exciting. I don't know about how many are in the company, they usually have about 25 dancers or so, but they bring their principles. Their dancers are so patient and so encouraging, they're really great to work with. This is exactly like their Omaha show, this is a big city production."
Performances are Friday evening at 7:30, with a matinee slated for 1:30 on Saturday afternoon at the Sami Center in Spirit Lake.
