(Storm Lake)-- Police in Storm Lake say they've arrested several people in connection with an investigation into a methamphetamine distribution ring in that city.
Storm Lake police say a tactical entry team, the Buena Vista County Emergency Response Team and a K9 Unit from the Sac County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on a residence in Storm Lake around 10:30 am Wednesday. Two people in that residence, 33-year-old Bounpane Phaymany and 26-year-old Brenda Vang, both of Storm Lake, were detained. Four small children, ages 3 to 6, were also in the residence.
Authorities say the search turned up a package with 1.2 pounds of methamphetamine in it with a street value of about $19,000; along with a semi-automatic handgun and a little more than $400 in cash.
While officers were still on the scene another suspect arrived at the residence, identified as 24-year-old Dylan Gustafson of Aurelia. Authorities say he was allegedly in possession of a small amount of meth, 2 ounces of marijuana, more than $850 in cash and a loaded semi-automatic handgun. Gustafson was taken into custody and the items were seized. Police say Gustafson had a permit to carry a concealed handgun, but the weapon was also seized by officers.
Gustafson was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. He was booked into jail on a $1,000 bond.
Phaymany was charged with conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance...methamphetamine, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and four counts of child endangerment. Bond was set at $25,000.
