Authorities Alerting The Public Of A New Scam Making The Rounds

Tue 10-8-2019

(Emmetsburg)-- Authorities are alerting the public of a new scam that's been reported in the area. The Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office says residents have reported getting emails that look like they're from the U.S. Postal Service advising the recipients that the Postal Service is unable to deliver a package to their residence. The resident is instructed to click a button that takes them to what appears to be a USPS Login screen. They are then instructed to add their email address and password and submit it.

The U.S. Postal Service says it does not send out emails to residents if a package was not able to be delivered. Instead the USPS leaves a card in the mailbox advising you to pick the package up at the post office.

Officials say they believe it's a phishing scam, or an attempt to gain sensitive information from you.
