(Estherville)-- An investigation Sunday by Estherville police into a report of an assault has resulted in the arrest of an Estherville man on multiple charges.

Police say they were called to 215 South 9th Street in Estherville shortly after 3:00 pm Sunday after getting a report of a woman crying and asking for help. Officers made contact with the woman and removed her from the residence.

Upon further investigation police determined the woman had sustained injuries after being physically assaulted on Saturday. They determined a suspect in the case and a warrant was issued for 39-year-old Joseph Allen Myers of Estherville.

Police later learned Myers may be in possession of firearms and ammunition as a prohibited person. Search warrants were obtained for a residence at 215 South 9th Street in Estherville. The search was executed with assistance of the HEAT team. That's when Myers was taken into custody.

Myers was charged with domestic assault/impeding air flow, possession of a firearm as a felon, four counts of possession of ammunition as a prohibited person, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Emmet county jail.
