(Estherville)-A new scholarship has been established at Iowa Lakes Community College, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
A memorial scholarship has been established in honor of Arnold J. Schilling at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Institutional Advancement Manager Allison Mason says Shilling was a dedicated educator. "Arnie Schilling was an educator who taught in the area for 57 years. His specialty was all things humanities, English, music, and then he also spent some time teaching piano at Iowa Lakes during his life."
She adds that the scholarship is permanent. "It was established in honor of him, and we are definitely honored to get to help carry out his legacy in this way. It's a permanent or endowed scholarship, so it will be around forever. That also means that every dollar given to this scholarship to help honor Arnie will continue to help it grow over the years and serve even more students. The scholarship is open to all students, priority will be given to students who plan to participate in the arts of any kind at Iowa Lakes, and then also, non-traditional students or students who have been away from school for a short time."
