Area Law Enforcement Agencies To Participate In Special Traffic Enforcement Program Over Upcoming 4th Of July

(Undated)-- Area law enforcement agencies will be participating in a special traffic enforcement campaign over the upcoming 4th of July holiday period with an emphasis on impaired and drunk driving. It's being put on as collaborative effort with the National Highway Safety Administration and the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.

Officials say that over the July 4th holiday during 2018, the latest year for which national statistics are available, 193 people died in motor vehicle crashes and that alcohol was involved in 78 of those.

In Iowa, authorities say there were 112 crashes during the 4th of July holiday period last year with two fatalities and nine serious injuries.
