Area Law Enforcement Agencies To Participate In Special Enforcement Project Over Upcoming St. Patty's Day Holiday Period
(Spirit Lake)-- Most area law enforcement agencies will be participating in a special enforcement project over the upcoming St. Patrick's Day holiday period. It's in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.
Statistics from the agencies show that over the 2017 St. Patrick's Day holiday period there were 59 fatalities nationwide with 37 percent involving drunk drivers. Officials say the most dangerous time to be on the road was the early morning hours of March 18th, when 75 percent of all crash fatalities involved drunk drivers.
The stepped up enforcement will take place this Thursday, March 14th, and will continue through this coming Sunday, March 17th.
