Area Chambers Warn Of So-Called "Ransomware Virus"

Mon 11-7-2016 []

(Spencer)-- Area chambers of commerce are reminding their members and area residents of the so-called "ransomware" computer virus that continues to make the rounds.

A computer becomes infected with the virus when the user clicks on an email attachment that is usually in the form of what's known as a zip file. They are commonly tagged as such. Officials say you should never click on something like that. Or as far as that goes, on any attachment on an email that's coming from someone you're unfamiliar with or just plain looks suspicious. They say you should simply just delete them.

In the event your computer DOES become infected with ransomware, the virus will encrypt all the data on your p-c. It will then instruct you to send a certain amount of money to get it restored.
