Area Businesses participating in Denim Day April 26
Tue 4-25-2017 Estherville,IA
(Estherville)-Area businesses will be taking part in Denim Day on April 26 as part orf Sexual Violence Awareness Month. KUOO's Becky Thoreson explains:
Denim Day is an international observance which occurs during Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
CAASA Advocate Misty Wolff says area businesses are taking part in the event. "We have all kinds of businesses that have just jumped on board this year and want to make sure that everyone's aware that we have an epidemic going on and we want to help get some awareness going. By allowing their staff to wear jeans for the day, it's a $5.00 donation, what happens is that when we collect this money, it all goes back into the county that it came from to give back to those people that are having issues at the moment."
She notes that a special celebration will be held Wednesday evening in Estherville. "On Wednesday night here in Estherville at Library Square from 5-6,we're going to do a balloon release for anyone who knows anyone who has been a sexual assault survivor, if they want to come out, we're just going to do a short talk and the balloon release. We have a Survivor that's leading it within our community, and she just feels compelled in her own healing to help others heal as well, and it's important for them to know that they're not alone."
