Application Period For LIHEAP Being Extended Due To COVID-19 Pandemic
(Spirit Lake)-- The Iowa Department of Human Rights, Division of Community Action Agencies has announced the application period for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, has now been extended through May 31st, 2020. Officials say it's the result of the COVID-19 pandemic and State Of Iowa Public Health Disaster Emergency.
The program is not designed to pay a household's total energy costs, but it does provide supplemental assistance based on total household income, size of the household, dwelling type, and type of heating fuel, among other factors.
Those who have already applied and have been approved this heating season may not re-apply.
Households can apply by contacting their local Upper Des Moines Opportunity outreach office. The Spirit Lake office can be reached at 336-1112. You can also go online to http://www.udmo.com/LIHEAP.htm
