A Blizzard Now Appears Likely For Portions Of The Region, Including The Iowa Great Lakes, Thursday and Thursday Night
(Spirit Lake)-- A blizzard now appears likely for portions of the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes, Thursday and Thursday night.
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Dickinson county, along with pretty much all of southwest Minnesota. It goes into effect at 9:00 am Thursday and continues until midnight Thursday night.
Forecasters say snow, which has already started falling late this (Wed.) afternoon, will continue to develop, with snowfall continuing into the day on Thursday. Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches will be likely. In addition, a strong northwest wind, gusting to 45 mph, will overspread the area as well Thursday morning, with the strong wind continuing through the day and into Thursday night. Forecasters say this will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow with whiteout or near whiteout conditions expected.
Dangerous wind chills will also occur, as temperatures will fall during the day Thursday.
