Mon 5-14-2018

(Arnolds Park)-- The date has been set for this year's Boji Brew Craft Beer Festival. Kathy Fahy of the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club, which is putting on the August 4th festival, tells KUOO news this will mark the second year for the event...Boji Brew Fest01

"Craft beer festivals are growing in popularity all over the country and especially in Iowa with the increase of micro breweries that we have, and so last year the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary Club decided to put on one locally here and what that is basically in essence you purchase a ticket and that gets you an entry into the festival where you receive a little glass and you can get two ounce samplings of beer from all of the breweries that we have on site, so our goal is to have 20 different breweries and each brewery usually brings four or five different beers to sample and so obviously you do the math, for a small entry fee you can get in and try all sorts of craft beers, all sorts of different styles and really get to experience what's being brewed right here in our own state and our own region."

The event August 4th will be held at the Central Park shelter house in Arnolds Park...Boji Brew Fest02

"The neat thing is that's also the same weekend as Art In The Park, so for folks that want to come and enjoy art you can also come and enjoy the craft beer festival. It will be from noon to 4:00 that day. Actually from noon to 1:00 is the VIP ticket that gets you in a little early, an hour early, and many brewers bring a special beer during that time, so you can taste those and try some of their specialty things, and then from 1:00 to 4:00 is the general admission for the public."

General admission tickets are $30 each; VIP tickets are $45 and are available at A limit of 600 tickets will be sold. Fahy says proceeds will go toward some needed improvements at Shelby's Playground at Elinor Bedell State Park...Boji Brew Fest03

"There are some upgrades that need to be done at that park with new equipment, some maintenance, we'd like to get some new planters out there, a little bit of landscaping, and so the money raised this year will also go with the money that we raised last year to help do some of those improvements which we do plan to do yet this summer."

Fahy says 20 craft breweries from throughout the region, including two local breweries, will be represented at this year's event.
