(Spirit Lake)-It's the Annual Tree of Love Lighting Ceremony this Sunday, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Voluntary Action Center of the Iowa Great Lakes will hold its 28th Annual Tree of Love Lighting event on Sunday afternoon, November 26 at Lakes Regional Hospital.
Executive director Angela Kofoot says it's a Holiday tradition in the Iowa Great Lakes. "We sing carols, just kind of kick off the season, there's a holiday message, there's refreshments, and we also have the wooden hearts that are just adorable. They're handmade, hand-painted, this year they have Rudolph on them, every year they're different. For $5 you can purchase one of those. People do that as a keepsake or a tribute for a memorial or a holiday greeting or a birthday. It's a great holiday tradition."
She adds that proceeds from the event support several causes. "It helps both the Lakes Regional Hospital Volunteers, supports scholarships for students who are entering the healthcare field, and it also supports Meals on Wheels and the Voluntary Action Center."
The Tree of Love Lighting Ceremony will begin at 3:30 Sunday afternoon. The hearts will be available throughout the holiday season at Lakes Regional Hospital.
