Spirit Lake VFW to hold benefit to send local Veterans on Brushy Creek Honor Flight

The Spirit Lake VFW will be hosting a chili supper on Saturday to help raise funds to send local Veterans on the Brushy Creek Honor Flight.

Organizer John Chappas explains.  "We're looking to send more Veterans on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., and it's a one day trip.  They leave Ft. Dodge about 6 o'clock in the morning, and get back about 11 o'clock that night.  While they're there, they get to see all the Memorials, Arlington Cemetery, The Viet Nam Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the Korean Memorial, and it's just a whirlwind trip.  Everybody I've ever talked to was just amazed by it that have gone on it."

He adds that the public is invited to stop by on Saturday.  "We're going to have a chili feed, and that's going to be a free will offering, it's going to start at 4:30 on Saturday, and after the chili feed, we're going to play a little Bingo, everybody seems to like to play Bingo, we'll have some prizes for that, we'll have door prizes there for people, so, just come and have a good time."

The VFW is located at 918 Lake Street in Spirit Lake.
